Welcome to our Real Talk workshop series, where teens and parents come together for an exciting journey of growth and discovery! We focus on essential life skills that empower young people to navigate today’s challenges with confidence and resilience. From mastering time management and self-care to building healthy friendships and effective communication, our workshops are designed to inspire and equip you for success.
What makes Real Talk truly special is our dedicated team of experienced mental health facilitators. With certifications in ASIST and Just In Time training, we bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise to every session. Two of our founders are trained in Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI) and have firsthand experience as foster parents, with one having been a foster child herself. Additionally, we have a team member with military training and skills in conflict resolution, mental health coaching, and nutrition coaching, ensuring a well-rounded and impactful learning experience.

Foundational Skills for All

Emotional Resilience begins with Self-Awareness. In our workshops, we will focus on self-awareness through interactive activities and discussions that encourage participants to reflect on their emotions and experiences. We’ll incorporate journaling prompts that guide them to explore their feelings in various situations and share their insights in a supportive group setting. Through group discussions and exercises, participants will learn to identify their emotional triggers and responses, helping them gain a better understanding of themselves and their needs.

We’ll guide participants in identifying negative thoughts and provide strategies for reframing them into positive statements. Activities like gratitude journaling and positive affirmations will help participants cultivate an optimistic mindset. By sharing their positive experiences and thoughts with each other, they’ll learn to support one another in maintaining a positive outlook even in challenging circumstances.

We’ll initiate open discussions about societal beauty standards and how they can affect self-perception. Advanced Skills for Older Teens

In our workshops, we’ll focus on essential money management skills that are crucial for financial independence. Participants will learn about budgeting, saving, and responsible spending, including how to track their expenses and set financial goals. We’ll discuss the importance of distinguishing between needs and wants, and introduce practical tools like budgeting apps. By the end of the session, participants will have a clearer understanding of how to manage their finances effectively and prepare for future financial responsibilities.

In our workshops, we will help older teens create professional resumes and CVs that effectively highlight their skills, experiences, and accomplishments. Participants will learn the key components of a strong resume, including how to tailor content to specific job applications. By the end of the session, participants will feel more confident in presenting their qualifications to potential employers.

We will provide a space for open discussions about dating, relationships, and healthy boundaries. Participants will explore topics such as effective communication, consent, and recognizing red flags in relationships. Our workshops will include role-playing scenarios to practice respectful interactions and conflict resolution. By discussing these important aspects of dating, we aim to equip teens with the skills and knowledge to engage in healthy, fulfilling relationships. We will have a panel including couples that have been dating for a short while, newly married couples, and a couple married for many decades.
